Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society H Mountney Memorial Trophy
The Derwent, Thames and Severn lakes on Makins Phase three hosted this latest LEVAS club match. The 21 participating anglers were spread over the three lakes and had plenty of room for a comfortable days fishing.
The weather remained warm, around 20-22 degrees centigrade, and with very little wind. Sunny spells and overcast skies prevailed throughout the day with numerous spells of very light rain.
Makins is a very well known premier match and pleasure fishery situated near Wolvey in Warwickshire. More information is available on the own website
Makins regular match organizer and LEVAS press secretary John Adamson used his local fishery knowledge to take the days winning weight. John’s excellent weight of 84-4-0 was taken from the Severn on peg 24 alternating between method feeder and pole and paste at 8m. A steady succession of small carp and some bream were taken throughout the match.
Very close behind the winner was inform Steve Hoult who placed 81-6-0 on the scales to secure the second place. Steve was on the Derwent peg 2 caught some fish on the banded pellet. The real damage was done in the margin feeding dead red maggots. Two worms placed on the hook caught the carps attention, and resulted in some really positive bites.
Paul Richardson took the third place with another good weight of 79-0-0 taken from Severn unfancied peg 14. The method feeder account for half of Paul’s catch. The most weight in the other half of his catch were lumps caught in the margin swim. Quite heavy feeding with dead reds in groundbait and bunches of dead reds on the hook enticed the better carp to feed.
The Thames peg 13 produced the fourth weight of 55-0-0 for ‘yours truely’ mainly alternating down the middle and margin swims on corn and banded pellet. The Thames also produce the next weights with Brian Leafe fishing mainly corn down the margins for 52-11-0 from peg 2 for fifth. The final sixth place went to Paul Skinner with a feeder and pole catch of 50-7-0 from Thames peg 9
