Match report for LEVAS Richardson cup fished on Grange Pond
Grange Pond hosted this latest Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s club match, the Richardson Cup. Match entries were slightly down as this LEVAS water is not a out and out match venue, unlike the commercial fisheries. never the less 18 anglers turned out to fish this relativity unknown quantity!
The summer weather continues with hot sunny days, and only slight winds. High steady temperatures seem to be the norm at the moment, which the fish tend to prefer.
Grange Pond has recently has had a substantial stocking program supplementing the existing resident carp population. Work has also been completed on a perimeter fence to safeguard fish stocks during period of high flood water. It is also hoped that the fence will also keep Otters out.
The fish are not really used to the extra activity cause by a substantial match being fished, but plenty of fish were caught. Some unfortunate anglers did suffer a dry net, including me!
Building on his recent evening match practice 2nd placing in form Rob Pembridge weighed 43-10-0 of carp for a clear win, well in front of the second place weight.
Rob had three early carp on the feeder on peg 27 before changing to the pellet waggler. Fishing this towards the island helped Rob to catch carp up to 6lbs for the rest of his winning net.
Bill Peach on adjacent peg 26 was also in to carp taking the second place with 27-2-0. The method feeder and banded pellet hookbait cast towards the island was Bill’s successful tactic.
Alan Welch also took advantage from a good area on peg 29 with a third placing weight of 19-12-0. The first part of Alan’s match didn’t produce any fish after trying various methods. It was only when he changed to fishing the pellet waggler in the afternoon that Alan’s match turned round by catching carp up in the water.
Malc Munn on corner peg 30 took fouth with 18-2-0, which included a nice common carp of around 10lbs taken in the margin on double maggot and a caster on the hook. Les Smedley weighed 16-8-0 from peg 19 for fifth, and Steve Talbot on peg 21 took the final sixth place with 15-8-0.
