Fishing a match on a unfamiliar water!
How often do you turn up at a new venue to fish a match, or just pleasure fishing, and have no prior knowledge of the fishery. You are at the draw, or just arrived and you would probably ask yourself, how as it been fishing recently. What species have been stocked, and which are the best species to fish for a good weight. Also which methods have been successful on the venue recently. And probably most important which are the ‘Flyers’ !.
I’m Dave Cotterill the author and owner of this website. Helpfully you will be able to ‘arm’ yourself with some reliable, and up to date information from this website. The regular match reports on fisheries, and venues should give a good picture on how that venue has been fishing.
Reliable match reports!
Nearly all the match reports are on matches that I’ve actually fished, and I was able to observe what methods, and pegs that were working on the day. Also most of the reports have a full listing of ALL the pegs, and recorded weights. This I think could be helpful to form a picture of the best, and worst area’s around the fishery.
Fishing has always been a obsession with me from about 10 years of age. Starting with a bubble float, and bent pin on a length of line wrapped round the top of a five foot garden cane !. The venue was always a small brook where you could jump across most of the time, and the species were minnows, bullheads etc.
An update to my first ‘proper’ fishing rod, a five foot solid fibreglass, and a aluminium centre pin reel, coupled with a bit more knowledge enabled me to starting catching brown trout, and some roach. The small brook originated from a private reservoir which had a good head of natural trout !. These early experiences cemented a life long passion for fishing, and also awareness of the countryside and the birds, and animals that live there.
I am now currently retired from BT after nearly 36 years of service. I am also presently the Secretary and Treasurer of the Soldiers and Sailors Angling Club (Sawley) Long Eaton Nottingham.
