The penultimate round of the Spring BAG-UP 2013 was fished on the Old & New canals on the Ryecroft fishery at Hemmington, near Castle Donington.
The weather was fine and warm, with a light westerly wind which made the fishing very pleasant. On some pegs the wind did make Long pole fishing hard work especially at 14.5 to16 metres range.
Top angler on the day for the second time in this series was Long Eaton’s Nick Mossop with a very respectable 50lbs 0ozs. Nick was drawn on peg 18 on the old canal, and fished long pole on maggot throughout the duration of the match, catching mostly carp steadily to amass the winning weight.
Paul Marriot took second place with 43lbs 6ozs from Peg 11, also on the old canal. Fishing the long pole a large number of Paul’s carp were taken on bread, on the far bank. Fishing bread on the Ryecroft fishery has been a very successful method recently, with John King capitalising on it the last two matches.
Third individual place was taken by Paul Skinner fishing long pole and maggot on the far bank. Paul’s weight consisted of mostly carp again, for a top weight on the new canal of 41lbs 11ozs.
